Europe's latest heatwave is an infrastructure warning, not just a weather headline.

Climate change is still the dominant forcing function behind extreme heat across Europe. At the same time, the AI deployment curve is adding real load to power grids, cooling systems, and datacenter capacity. For those of us building and maintaining these systems, the message is clear: we do not need more AI by default; we need better AI by design.

A field-ready approach is to pair Detached Systems with Smart Routing.

In production, that means a routing layer picks the right model for the job instead of defaulting to the biggest cloud endpoint, while detached compute nodes run workloads locally or on dedicated hardware whenever feasible. The measured effects are lower energy draw, less WAN dependency, stronger data privacy, reduced operating cost, and higher resilience when the network or grid is under stress.

Progress in AI should not be benchmarked by how many GPUs we rack. It should be benchmarked by useful work per watt, per token, per hour.
